Kids say the darndest things #4

Mommy: What's in your diaper?
Jackson: Snack!

Mommy: Jackson, what's your name?
Jackson: Poo poo!

Lizzie had just gotten out of the tub and was analyzing her wet face in the mirror...
Lizzie: (dead serious) Mommy, there's a problem... I have one big eye and one little eye.

Lizzie to Ammon: You went to the no-fair and so did I!
"no-fair" = The Big Fresno Fair

Another art project

I'm slowly changing the color palate of our interior decorations. The red is going. I love it, but it's time for a change!

Jackson leaves a "treat"

Here's a good one for you readers...

Jackson was taking a bath. I was standing there in the bathroom at the sink doing Lizzie's hair. I was focusing very hard on getting her pigtails just right when all of a sudden in the quiet we hear, "plop" into the bathtub water. Jackson's head whipped around to look at what had fallen into the water. Can you even guess what it was??? Jackson made a perfect poop into the bathtub still full of water and he didn't even realize what he'd done till he saw it! EW! I quickly let go of Lizzie's hair and pulled Mr. Jackson out of the water so he wouldn't touch the yuckies. I whisked him away and got him dressed. When we got back to the bathroom Lizzie was still sitting quiet just staring at Jackson's mess. Jackson leaned into the tub and said, "Mommy. Clean. Messes." Yep, that's just what I did. Bleach. Bleach. Bleach.

Ahhh. It's all better now.

Student of the Quarter

Logan is an excellent student. He loves to please the teacher. He tries so hard to be obedient and follow all rules and instructions. It seems that his teacher notices all his efforts as well. We are so proud of our Logie Man for always trying his best. Way to go Logan! We love you.

Birthdays, birthdays, birthdays!

Sunday night we celebrated the October Birthdays in our family. Mine, Amy's and Timmy's. We dined on some fabulous food: Black Bean and Sausage Soup, Pear and Greens Salad, Focaccia Bread, Cheesecake with chocolate sauce and/or strawberries, Jello Cake, and Caralee brought a homemade Apple Pie! Yum. We all left stuffed and happy.

(The kids love to blow out my candles. This time was no different - there they go again!)

Check out Amy's pregnant belly - I love it!!

"I like to look for rainbows..."

"...whenever there is rain. And ponder on the beauty of the earth made clean again."

It rained early Sunday morning. And we woke to a beautiful sight! Can you see the double rainbow?

The Costumes

Trevor and Logan both decided they wanted to be storm troopers from Star Wars. Toy R Us was good to us and put these costumes on sale that very week!

Lizzie had 2 costumes this year. #1 was her Chinese Girl and #2 was this White Ballerina. She was not excited to do her hair up, but immediately changed her mind when I pulled out a can of spray hair glitter. Wow. The difference a little glitter can make.

Jackson refused 3 other costumes before I finally gave up and pulled out his Mr. Incredible jammies. He was happy and satisfied to wear something that resembled normal clothes.

Jeremy's was the best. He pulled out this wig at the last minute and wore it to school all day. The students asked, "Mr. Ward, what's your costume supposed to be?" Jeremy replied, "I'm Mr. Ward with hair, okay?" Ha!

We had a fun Halloween night - complete with:
Pigs in a Blanket
"Kick in the pants" Punch with dry ice
Dinner in a Pumpkin (thanks Amy! it was sooo yummy!)
Trick or Treating
Spooky sounds for the Trick or Treaters
a few Duran family visitors
and we watched Ghostbusters the movie

Joy School Halloween Party

It was a fun week for Joy School. We did all the fun Halloween crafts earlier in the week and then had a party on Thursday, Halloween Eve. These "flying ghosties" (suckers wrapped with a white napkin) were one of our crafts we made and put them up for decorations.

We had 4 extra friends for our big par-tay.

Preston dressed up as a surfer dude and Ashlynn was his hula dancer. Lizzie donned her Chinese Girl costume we found in San Francisco's China Town earlier this year.

We started the fun with musical chairs/cake walk. The kids won a cupcake that they frosted and decorated themselves.

They got a special spider web ice cream sundae to go with their cupcakes.

We played Plinko and got a nice grab bag full of candy to take home.

Our craft was a TP roll covered in fabric with a paper stem and pipe cleaner vine - a pumpkin!

Our treat bags were stuffed with all their spoils from the party. These witch's broomstick bags were quick, easy to put together and so cute!

All of these decorations, crafts and ideas I got off the internet. I was totally proud that I didn't go out and buy anything extra for this party. It was a FREE party. Sort of. Everything we used I already had in the house! Did anyone else do fun Halloween crafts this year?

It was the Bees Knees

Going to see this movie was one of the stops on my birthday scavenger hunt. Buffy, Michelle and her mama got to go along too (while Jeremy stayed at home and watched ALL THE KIDS!).

We read this book for our book club this year and I think everyone loved it. We were all ecstatic when we heard they were doing a movie. I have to say that it was so well done and having watched the credits after the show now I know why. Will Smith and his wife Jada were the producers - of course they'd never do anything but the best. The actors did an excellent job staying true to the characters in the book. The story was essentially the same too.

My favorite character in the book was Ms. August. My favorite character in the movie was Ms. June. Alicia Keys was the perfect choice for playing this sassy woman. Dakota Fanning will be a legend someday - she is so good.

Be prepared for the tears ladies, I got all choked up about 5 times! Fact: After you've read the book or seen the movie you'll have a revulsion for grits. One more side note: The only thing I was disappointed with was the "Daughters of Mary" hats. I wanted to see those outlandish things, but I guess there just isn't enough time to do it all...

Hands down this was the BEST movie I've seen in a long time. I recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed this book, anyone who loves these fabulous actors and anyone that loves the 60's civil rights movement.

I give it 5 jars of honey out of 5!
